The defeat against Zimbabwe has thrown Pakistan back on number six on Tests rankings. On the other hand, Zimbabwe have made a comeback in the rankings after six years, leaving Bangladesh behind to capture the number nine spot.

When England won Ashes 3-0, Pakistan was promoted to number 4. However, the nightmarish defeat in the Harare Test has taken five points away from the green shirts and they have been relegated to the number six position after Australia and West indies.

Pakistan were at number four with 102 points when the Test series against Zimbabwe started. Australia and West Indies had 101 and 99 points respectively. The defeat in the second Test pushed Pakistan back to 97 points.

Now the next Test series of Pakistan will be in the UAE in October against the world's top side South Africa. Test series will start on Oct 14 followed by five ODIs and two T20s. After looking at the performance of team Pakistan against the side like Zimbabwe, there is great scepticism over how they will face the world's number one. This is time for the PCB they should take some unpopular decisions. Otherwise, this series against South Africa can be the last nail in the coffin.

The International Cricket Council has released the latest ODI rankings, according to which both Pakistan bowlers and batsmen are on the decline.

World champions India, who have just completed their Zimbabwe tour successfully, are still grabbing hold of the top slot. Whitewashing Zimbabwe has helped them reaching 123 points. Annual update has assisted Australia and England to achieve second and third positions, respectively.

Sri Lanka have jumped to fourth from fifth rank after beating South Africa in an ODI series, whereas Pakistan are where they were – at sixth position.

As for individual rankings, Hashim Amla is still the number one batsman, followed by AB de Villiers (2nd) and Kumar Sangakkara (3rd). Misbah-ul-Haq, who is the only Pakistani batsman in the top 10, has been relegated to number eight from seven.

India’s Ravindra Jadeja has made significant progress, going up by four places to the top position in bowlers’ rankings. It’s first time in 17 years that an Indian bowler has clinched the first position. The last one to do so was Anil Kumble. Jadeja’s progress cost Sunil Narine his place and he is now at second position. England’s Steven Finn and James Anderson are at number three and four, respectively.  Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has gone downwards further to 5th position.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan is still at number one, whereas Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez is at number five.

South Africa have consolidated their position as the top-ranked Test side after the yearly update of the Reliance ICC Test Championship Table – World Test Rankings – while Pakistan are still at the fifth position.

India have moved up to second position, snatching the place by England who are now at the third place.

According to an International Cricket Council (ICC) press release, a copy of which was sent to Cricnama, the update “continues to reflect recent form, with older results being discarded.”

It was decided in a recent ICC meeting that the annual update to the Test, ODI and T20 rankings should now take place on May 1 of every year, instead of August 1. This is why the latest update has been backdated to  May 1, 2013.

The updated table now reflects all Test series played after August 1, 2010. All series played until the start of May 2014 will be added to this table, so that by the time, the ratings will be based on just under four years of results, with series completed before August 1, 2012 weighed at 50 per cent and subsequent results valued at 100 per cent.

According to the latest rankings, South Africa have gained seven points, and now their total points are 135, which means a 19-point lead over second-ranked India. The Proteas firm position is backed by their outstanding form in the Test arena, where they have not lost a Test for 18 months and a Test series during the entire rankings period. In 2012-2013 (the period in which results are weighed at 100 per cent), South Africa have remained unbeaten, beating England 2-0, Australia 1-0, New Zealand 2-0 and Pakistan 3-0.

The ODI defending champions India have been benefited by the latest rankings, achieving second position once again. Reason? India’s two 4-0 defeats in England and Australia in 2011-12 are now only weighed at 50 per cent, reducing their impact on India’s overall rating. But England have still a chance to regain their second position if they beat Australia by at least 3-0 in the Ashes, scheduled to begin from July 10. If this happens, Australia will tumble down even below Pakistan, who will then be at the fourth position. And in case Australia beat the hosts England, they will jump to third place, sending England to the fourth.

Pakistan are where they were. But they did lose two valuable points. Pakistan had 104 points before the latest update and Sri Lanka were at sixth position with 92 points. Now Pakistan have 102 points and West Indies have secured sixth place, gaining seven points, while Sri Lanka are at seventh position with 88 points.

The 2013 Champions Trophy has ended after a few exciting and a number of disappointing matches, with India making yet another history. The latest ODI rankings issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) showed that India have reaffirmed their first position.

India, who had 119 points before the tournament, have now gained four additional points after five stunning victories against South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England. It means that the Champions Trophy winners have 10-point lead over England, who are at second position with 113 points, while Australia are at number three with the difference of a few decimals. South Africa are fourth with 111 points and Sri Lanka are fifth with 108 points after losing one point apiece. Pakistan lost three points after beaten in all the tournament’s matches and are now at sixth position with 102 points.

As for individual’s rankings, India’s Ravindra Jadeja, who claimed the “Golden Ball” award for his 12 wicket in the Champions Trophy, is ranked third in both bowlers’ and all-rounders’ list. Ravichandran Ashwin has jumped six places to grab ninth position among the top ten bowlers. West Indies Sunil Narine remains at the top slot while Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal is at second.

England Jonathan Trott is now ranked fourth in the batsmen’s list while Pakistan test and ODI captain Misbah-ul-Haq has managed to secure ninth position after furthering one position. South Africa captain AB de Villiers and countryman Hashim Amla are still securing the top two positions.

Shikhar Dhawan has climbed a hefty 21 places to earn 29th position. He was also given the “Golden Bat” award for scoring 363 – most runs by any individual in the 2013 Champions Trophy. If he continues to perform in a similar manner, it will not take him long to carve out his place in the Top 10 list.

Nobody could imagine that Pakistan would whitewash the series against world No. 1 England. What is sad that Pakistan, after achieving this great victory, have not got any promotion in world rankings nor have the England lost their top position.

As a matter of fact the progress of Pakistan in world rankings lot depended on the series between India and Australia where Indian victory would have resulted in further loss of points for Australia and Pakistan could jump to fourth position by defeating England. But ‘neighbours’ made it difficult for us by losing it big time 4-0 and Australia has secured several points and is still on 4th rank with 111 points. While India is little ahead on third position with equal number of points. Pakistan on the other hand is still on 5th rank despite gaining nine points. This is the first time since 2007 that Pakistan has obtained 108 points.

The competition has become tougher among the top five sides after the two clean sweeps, Australia-India and Pakistan-England, in a row. Pakistan is now only three points away from 3rd and 4th ranked teams of India and Australia and eight points from 2nd ranked South Africa.

England, on the other hand, have faced a great loss in points they are ranked No. 1 one nevertheless. Losing to a lower ranked side of Pakistan, in the shape of a clean sweep, their points total has fallen from 125 to 118 points and thus they are only a point ahead of number two side of South Africa. South Africa can now deprive England from the top slot by winning against New Zealand with a clean sweep.

As per the ICC release received by Cricnama, this is the first series defeat for England after their loss against West Indies in 2008-09, hence their first loss under the coaching of Andy Flower. For Pakistan this is a historic occasion as this is their first white wash against England.

Pakistan’s next series is with Sri Lanka, scheduled in May-June, where a victory can improve their rankings.  While the highlights of individual rankings are Younis Khan’s return on 5th position and Azhar Ali’s rise to top ten. Younis Khan, by virtue of his century in the last Test, has jumped to 5th position with 797 points, while his career best innings of 157 runs has helped Azhar Ali getting the 10th position. Misbahul Haq, however, is out of top ten after batting poorly in the last test. At present Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakara is still on the top spot with 850 points while Jacques Kallis is on second position with 846 points.

Among bowlers Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal is still on second position while Abdur Rehman has progressed to 7th position. Man of the series Saeed Ajmal is now the best spinner in the world while his rival Graeme Swann has dropped to 6th in rankings who is only a point ahead of Abdur Rehman – the Abu Dhabi hero.
