ICC has made major announcements regarding Cricket World Cup 2015. In the declaration ICC has announced the Venues and dates of the games. All the participating teams have been divided in two groups and interestingly the arch-rivals of cricket – Pakistan and India are in the same group and both these teams will start their World Cup journey together in the same match facing each other.

icc-world-cup-2015-logoOn Tuesday, early morning at a special event regarding ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 took place at Melbourne and Auckland all the details of the event been issued. According to the news, world cup is going to take place in New Zealand and Australia again after a gap of 21 years. Final of the event will also be taking place and MCG where last time in 1992 Pakistan under the leadership of Imran Khan became Cricket World Champion. It is expected that the upcoming cricket world cup in Australia will fade away the memories of 1992 cricket world cup. It is noteworthy that 1992 cricket world cup by all means was a trend setting event.

All the 10 permanent members of ICC and four qualifying teams will take part in the grandest stage of ODI cricket. The first round will be played on the bases of groups were teams will be divided in two groups seven teams in each group. Group A is compressed of England, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and two qualifying teams. On the other hand Group B is compressed of Defending Champion India, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ireland, and one Qualifying team.

The top four teams from each group will qualify for the quarter finals, after that two finals, and then eventually one final will be played.

Tournament will officially begin on 14th February with the match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Christchurch. The Ashes Rivals will face each other same day in a day and night encounter. The biggest match of the event will be on 15th February when Pakistan will face defending champion India at Adelaide.

Total 49 matches will be played during the tournament and total 14 cricket grounds of both countries will host these games. 26 matches will be played in Australian cities; Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, Sidney. However, 23 matches will be hosted by New Zealand at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Napier, Nelson and Wellington.

The last match of the group stage will be played on 15th March between Pakistan and Ireland. And first Quarter Final will be played on 18th March at Sydney. First Semi final will be on 24th March Eden Park, Auckland and second Semi Final will be hosted by Sydney Cricket Ground on 26th March. The final will take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MSG) on 29th March 2015. Interestingly the host venues for semi finals and the final are same as they were in 1992.
