The ODI series against Sri Lanka was more of a nightmare for South Africa where they faced one defeat after the other and lost their 4th position in the ODI rankings. However, T20 series has been a silver lining for them. South Africa defeated the hosts in second T20 played at Hambantota by 22 runs, stamping a 2-0 lead in the series.

South African captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and set out to bat. Batsmen's performance was pretty ordinary in the beginning until the fireworks by David Miller.
South Africa lost Henry Davids at the score of 11. Quinton de Kock and du Plessis were also back in pavilion before the total could reach 50 . JP Duminy and AB de Villiers dragged the score to 86, and then came David Miller after de Viliers' dismissal. Miller led the team to a decent 145 total with his “charged bat”. He scored 36 off just 21 with two sixes and one four. On the other end, Duminy scored 30 off 23.
Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Kulasekara and Sachithra Senanayake took two wickets each and Lasith Malinga took one.
Sri Lanka looked completely helpless in the chase. Their batting line displayed total opposite picture as compared to ODIs. They lost three valuable wickets of Mahela Jayawardene, Dinesh Chandimal, and Kusal Perera at 48.
Kumar Sangakkara and Lahiru Thirimanne pushed the score to 85 but Sri Lanka lost Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, and Kumar Sangakkara one after the other in the next three overs. These three scored 18, 1, and 39, respectively. Sri Lanka only managed to score 123 for seven wickets by the end of 20 overs.
The victory over ranked number one team will add a positive impact on the position of Proteas in the rankings. Miller was declared the man of the match. The next and final match of the series will be played on Thursday at Hambantota.
