1. West Indies Jerome Taylor is the only bowler who has claimed a hat-trick in the Champions Trophy. He achieved the milestone against Australia at Mumbai in the 2006 edition of the tournament. The hat-trick, which was completed in two overs, was also the first  by any West Indian bowler in the ODI history.

1. Sri Lanka’s Marvan Atapattu has this unique record of making one century and one half-century in the Champions Trophy, and was out for a duck on one occasion.

2. It happened two times in the Champions Trophy that a batsman was dismissed on the first ball of the match. In 2002, India’s Zaheer Khan bowled out Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and in 2009, West Indies’ Kemar Roach dismissed Australia’s Shane Watson on match’s first delivery.

3. Sri Lanka’s Muralitharan, Zimbabwe’s Douglas Hondo and West Indies Mervyn Dillon are the only three bowlers to have taken four or more wicket twice in the Champions Trophy.

3. The trio of India’s Sourav Ganguly, West Indies Chris Gayle and South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs have scored most centuries in the tournament. , Surprisingly, the number of their hundreds is also three.

3. It happened only three time in the Champions Trophy when a team won a match on the last ball. The games were won by New Zealand against Zimbabwe in 1998, South Africa against West Indies in 2002 and Australia against Pakistan in 2009.

4. Shane Watson is the only batsman who has been dismissed for a duck four times in the Champions Trophy. This is the most number of times a batsman returned to the pavilion without scoring a run.

4. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara has done most stumpings, four times to be precise, in the Champions Trophy.

5. West Indies Shivnarine Chanderpaul and New Zealand’s Kyle Mills and Daniel Vettori are the batsmen who remained not out for five times apiece in the Champions Trophy.

6. It happened only once in the Champions Trophy that a bowler took six wickets. This achievement belongs to Sri Lanka’s Farveez Maharoof which he claimed in 2006 against West Indies. No other bowler has yet claimed six or more wicket in the tournament.

7. New Zealand’s Craig McMillan (against the USA in 2004) and Australia’s Shane Watson (against England in 2009) have hit most sixes in the Champions Trophy i.e. six.

8. The Champions Trophy saw it on eight occasion that a team has been bowled out below 100 runs. Bangladesh was booke under 100 twice, while the USA, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe were each restricted below the mark once.

9. On nine occasions in the Champions Trophy a bowler scored a five-wicket haul. And each time the bowler was different, which means no bowler took five wickets twice. The bowlers are: Jacques Kallis, Wayne Parnell and Makhaya Ntini (South Africa), Shayne O'connor and Jacob Oram (New Zealand), Glenn McGrath (Australia), Farveez Maharoof (Sri Lanka), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) and Mervyn Dillon (West Indies).shahid-afridi1

10. It happened only once that a team won match by 10 wickets in the Champions Trophy. The unique win was claimed by West Indies against Bangladesh in 2006.

13. Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene has taken most catches – 13 – in the tournament.

16. Australia’s Ricky Ponting has played most number of matches – 16 – in the Champions Trophy as captain.

17. The number of sixes hit by Ganguly in the Champions Trophy is 17 and it is the most by any player.

20. Jayasuria has been capped 20 times in the tournament which is most by any cricketer. Interestingly, Sri Lanka have also played the same number of matches in the Champions Trophy, meaning Jayasuria was part of the team in every match it played in the tournament.

21. West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor supervised a record 21 matches in the Champions Trophy.

24. Muralitharan has most number of wickets (i.e. 24) under his belt in the tournament.

28. Sangakkara has dismissed 28 batsmen from behind the wickets.

37. The Champions Trophy has witnessed as many as 37 centuries from which West Indies, India and Sri Lanka each have scored six hundreds.

65. It is the lowest ever total scored by any team in the Champions Trophy. It was by the USA against Australia in 2004.

85. A total of 85 matches have been played in the Champions Trophy from which 82 finished with a result and three ended in a draw.

86. Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara gave 86 runs in match which are the most by any bowler in a Champions Trophy match. He was slapped with 86 runs in the 2004 edition against England.chris-gayle

88. This is the number of fours scored by Chris Gayle in the tournament – the most by any player.

99. Gayle was the only player to be dismissed on 99 individual runs. The unfortunate moment came in the 2004 version of the tournament in the match against Bangladesh.

100. Zimbabwe’s Alistair Campbell was the only player to be bowled out on 100 runs as an individual. It happened in Zimbabwe’s match against New Zealand in the 1998 Champions Trophy, held in Bangladesh.

111. The great Brian Lara is the only one to be dismissed when on nelson i.e. 111 runs. He played the innings against Kenya in the 2002 edition of the tournament held in Sri Lanka. Mohammad Kaif (against Zimbabwe in 2002) and Ponting (against England in 2009) also scored 111 runs in a match but they remained not out.

145. New Zealand’s Nathan Astle and Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower have the honour of playing the biggest individual innings. Astle and Flower scored 145 runs each in 2004 against the USA and in 2002 against India, respectively.

157. This is the number of half-centuries scored in the history of the Champions Trophy, and the most – 23 – have been scored by England.

210. It is the largest margin a team beat another in the tournament. It was a 2004 match between New Zealand and the USA, and there are no prizes for guessing that who defeated whom.

252. Australia’s Ponting and Watson have made the biggest partnership in the Champions Trophy. They added unbeaten 252 runs in the 2nd wicket in the 2009 edition against England.

347. The highest total posted by any team. The Black Caps scored 347 runs against the USA in 2004.

351. In six versions of the tournament, as many as 351 sixes have been scored. West Indies have the largest share of 54 sixes.

429. A total of 429 players have taken part in all the editions of the Champions Trophy from which most numbers of players were from England i.e. 53.

474. Chris Gayle scored most runs in any single edition. He scored 474 runs in the 2006 Champions Trophy.

635. Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Gayle have the honour of making 635 runs together and it is the most runs scored by a pair in all the editions. They have scored 635 runs in nine matches at 90.71, including two centuries and three half-centuries.

695. In all the editions combined, Chris Gayle has scored most runs. He had made 695 runs in 14 matches.

1198. This is the number of wickets fallen in the Champions Trophy – 1087 by bowlers and 111 run-outs.

3294. As many as 3294 fours have been scored in all the editions combined. West Indies (416) have scored most number of fours.

35130. The Champions Trophy have seen 35130 runs in its history. The number also includes extras.

43663. This is the number of balls bowled in all the versions. No-balls and wides are included in the figure.
