The biggest tournament of the current year will be held in England from June 6 to 23 and will be its last version because the ICC last year decided to hold only one big tournament in each format of the game which led to the introduction of the Test Championship. The decision also meant that only World Cup would be held in the one-day format as a big tournament. The matches of the next month’s Champions Trophy will be held in Cardiff, Birmingham and at London’s historic The Oval stadium.
According to an ICC notification, a copy of which was received by Cricnama, warm-up matches will take place at the three venues from May 30 to June 4. According to the ICC norms in other tournaments, these matches will also not be considered as ODIs and the runs, wickets and records made during them will not be included in players’ statistics.
The first warm-up match will be played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Birmingham on May 30. The day-night match will start at 1pm according to the local time. Four of the total six matches will be broadcast, and this will be the first match to be telecast on Star Sports.
India and Sri Lanka will face each other in Birmingham on June 1. It will be a day match, starting at 10.30am and will be telecast live. Defending champions Australia will play against West Indies on the same day in the afternoon.
Pakistan will play their second and last warm-up match against South Africa at The Oval, which will start at 10.30am and will be telecast live.
On June 4, Sri Lanka will face West Indies in Birmingham and Australia will play against India in Cardiff. The latter match will be broadcast live.
