Faisalabad Wolves qualified for this year’s Champions League Twenty20 after clinching the Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Cup title, their second national title since 2005.

Having set a target of 159 runs, Wolves’ bowlers focused to get rid of Sialkot Stallions’ captain Shoaib Malik, who could play his role as a catalyst of change and had the gumption to turn the tables. But Malik had to score with a demanding run-rate while focusing not to give up his wicket as the team had already lost four wickets on 26. The pressure was mounting.
Ehsan Adil bowled out Malik at the time when Stallions needed another 62 runs to win from 21 balls. A defeat was then almost unavoidable for Stallions. They managed to add just 25 runs after Malik’s departure, giving away a 36-run victory to Wolves.
Though Malik added 63 runs to the total for the fifth wicket but the target required other batsmen to put in their efforts as well. But it did not happen and six of the team’s players were back in the hut without even reaching five-run mark.
Wolves batting start was also not much good as they were 16 for two, losing their openers in the third over. But then Khurram Shehzad, Asif Ali and Misbahul Haq were enough to lead the side to 158 runs.
Ali scored a riveting, unbeaten 70 for 77 with nine boundaries, including three sixes and six fours. He clinched six awards for the show: most stylish player, most fours, most sixes, best scorer, and the Player of the Match.
Ehsan Adil, who took three wickets in the final including Malik brothers (Shoaib and Adeel), was named best bowler of the tournament.
Misbah, who finished the event being the top-scorer with 206 at an average of 103 and a strike-rate of 140.13, scored an undefeated 38 for 38.
The win helped Wolves to qualify for the Champions League T20. Stallions qualified last year but failed to make it to the main round.
